Zelensky on frontline situation: no major Russian breakthroughs

He made this comment during a press briefing with journalists on July 24, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“They’re not advancing. It’s very tough for our guys — tough everywhere. And it’s very tough for the Russians too — which is good for us. The Russians don’t want to fight — except for their leadership. And you can feel that. They have more troops, more pressure, more mobilization — which means greater risks for us. They’re genuinely trying to make a breakthrough. But they haven’t achieved any serious breakthroughs,” Zelensky said.

According to him, Russia is attempting to offset its lack of progress on the frontlines through military-information operations.

“Take the situation in Pokrovsk. How many times have sabotage and reconnaissance groups infiltrated? I’ve been speaking to the military — just now with General Syrskyi. He says it’s happened 5 to 7 times: sometimes two people, sometimes six. There was one case when they tried to establish a foothold with 12 people. They try to film something — plant a flag, capture it on video — and then all of them are eliminated by our defenders,” the President explained.

As reported earlier by Ukrinform, on July 24, Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops engaged in a total of 174 combat clashes, a third of which took place in the Pokrovsk sector.
