Two people were killed in a mine explosion in the resort town of Zatoka, Odesa region.

The incident occurred on the seashore, Dumska reports, citing a law enforcement source.

"Preliminary reports indicate that two individuals were killed by a mine explosion in the resort town of Zatoka," the statement said.

On Thursday, the regional administration officially announced the start of the beach season. Although beaches in Zatoka are not included on the list of officially open zones, tourists are still being hosted in the area.

Eleven beaches in Odesa have officially opened to visitors, including one in the village of Prymorske.
