Russia launches missile strike on training unit in Poltava region

The Ukrainian Ground Forces reported this via Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"On Wednesday, June 4, the enemy launched a missile strike on a training unit in the Poltava region. Thanks to timely and carefully thought-out safety measures developed to protect the lives and health of service members under the constant threat of missile and air attacks in rear areas, the worst was avoided," the statement said.

It also added that a set of preventive measures, including the dispersion of personnel, the use of shelters, and compliance with safety protocols during air raid alerts, helped preserve the lives of the servicemen who were on the training ground at the time of the strike carrying out training tasks.

"Unfortunately, there are wounded. All those injured are receiving the necessary qualified medical assistance at specialized healthcare facilities. Doctors are doing everything possible to ensure their swift recovery," the Ukrainian Ground Forces said.

A special commission has been created to investigate the incident and assess the damage. The results of the investigation will be made public upon its completion.

"This incident once again highlights the importance of constant vigilance, strict adherence to safety rules, and readiness for any scenario amid ongoing Russian aggression," the military added.

On June 1, Russians launched a missile strike on a training unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, killing 12 people and injuring 60 others.

Following the strike, Ground Forces Commander Mykhailo Drapatyi submitted his resignation, stating it was a conscious decision driven by his personal sense of responsibility for the tragedy at the training ground.

However, on June 3, after a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Drapatyi announced that he would remain in service.

Zelensky appointed him as Commander of the Joint Forces.
