Shmyhal inspects construction of shelters in Kharkiv region

The head of government announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

"The creation of safe conditions for learning remains a priority for the government. Today, in the Kharkiv region, we visited the construction of a shelter for a lyceum in the Kharkiv region, where almost 500 students study. The protective structure has a dual purpose. In peacetime, it will be possible to organize after-school clubs for children, master classes, seminars, training sessions, etc.," he wrote.

Shmyhal noted that he had also inspected the shelter of another lyceum, developed with support from the Belgian government. He expressed gratitude to partners for their assistance, adding that a youth center offering social, educational and psychological services is operating at the lyceum. Shmyhal praised the center's staff for their work with children.

"We also got acquainted with the construction of a shelter for a preschool educational institution. The protective structure will have four main educational rooms, a medical center, a dining room, and sanitary rooms. The kindergarten will be equipped with two centralized power sources and a generator to ensure continuous operation in any situation," he said.

Shmyhal recalled that the construction and renovation of shelters in educational institutions is a priority for the government, as this is an important safety factor during the educational process. In total, a record UAH 2.7 billion has been allocated to the Kharkiv region for this effort.

Shmyhal also inspected a five-megawatt gas modular boiler house from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the installation of which is nearing completion.

"Today, we inspected a five-megawatt gas modular boiler house in the Kharkiv region, which Ukraine received from UNICEF. The work on installing the boiler house is already being completed. It is also planned to build two more units with capacities of two and 20 megawatts. This will provide heat for 4,000 residents of the community," he wrote on Telegram.

Shmyhal noted that the government had allocated UAH 2.4 billion to the Kharkiv region to prepare for the heating season. As many as 913 "invincibility points" have been deployed in the region. The region's heat supply, water supply and wastewater facilities have more than 1,200 generators of various capacities. Heat suppliers are also equipped with 39 cogeneration units.

He stressed the importance of developing distributed energy generation, especially after Russian attacks damaged key heat generation infrastructure in the region. In response, necessary energy equipment has been supplied to ensure residents have heat throughout the winter.
