Kharkiv region opens traffic on restored bridge that was destroyed in 2022
This was announced on Facebook by the Service for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure in the Kharkiv region, Ukrinform reports.
"The bridge on the R-79 highway was destroyed in order to slow down the enemy's advance at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. After the Ukrainian military repelled the Russians, work immediately began on the restoration of the building, because one of the most important logistics routes passes along this road," the post reads.
According to the service, the R-79 road connects four districts of the Kharkiv region. Specialists, in order to restore the bridge faster, decided to abandon the classic monolithic structures and use two corrugated metal pipes, which significantly reduced the construction process and significantly reduced the cost of the project, the restoration service says.
"The service life of such pipes is not inferior to reinforced concrete structures – it is even longer. To date, the full range of overhaul works has almost been completed, it remains to apply road markings and put the surrounding area in order," the department said.
As reported, the bridge destroyed as a result of hostilities was rebuilt on the Kyiv-Kharkiv-Dovzhanskyi highway, and traffic on the structure will be opened in the fall. Road workers are arranging approaches to the overpass, after which they will apply road markings and install road signs.
