Energoatom: Russians continue to mine Zaporizhzhia NPP

National Nuclear Energy Generating Company "Energoatom" regularly receives information that the plant is being mined by the Russian military. The situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains difficult.

This was reported by President of Energoatom Petro Kotin, the company's press service posted on Telegram.

"In fact, the Russian occupiers continue to use it [NPP] as their military base. We regularly receive reports that they mine our plant," Kotin said, clarifying that radiation status at the ZNPP currently is monitored thanks to radiation monitoring sensors located 5 km from the plant, on the right bank of the Dnipro River.

According to Kotin, IAEA inspectors are also present at the ZNPP, and their reports help to understand what is happening at the nuclear facility. At the same time, the Russians do not allow the agency’s representatives to visit all areas that need to be inspected.

"Despite the degradation of the equipment, we are very much looking forward to the moment when we will be able to regain control over the plant to restore its full operation," the head of Energoatom summed up.

As reported, on July 4, the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially warned about the possible preparation of provocations by the Russian invaders at the ZNPP. The IAEA announced on July 12 that the organization's experts did not find any mines or explosives during the inspection of the ZNPP. However, the agency admitted that it was still waiting to gain the necessary access to the rooftops of reactor units 3 and 4 following reports that explosives might have been placed there.
