Ukraine’s Air Force considers U.S. decision to provide cluster munitions logical
The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yurii Ihnat during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We have seen the statement from the United States about cluster munitions. And people can look up what types they are on Wikipedia. The United States has not specified what type of ammunition will be provided, and we probably will not do so,” Ihnat said.
In his words, Russia is continuously using everything it has against Ukraine, both cluster and white phosphorus munitions.
“Hence, the U.S. decision to provide Ukraine with these very munitions is absolutely logical,” Ihnat emphasized.
The spokesperson mentioned that the Armed Forces of Ukraine also have guided bombs.
“Often our pilots launch strikes with this type of ammunition. Our bombs, unlike those of the Russian Federation, are high-precision weapons. They fly exactly to the target,” Ihnat noted, adding that Ukraine needs more of such weapons.
A reminder that, on July 7, 2023, the U.S. Department of Defense officially announced a new $800 million package of security assistance to Ukraine, including cluster munitions.
