Nearly 1,000 Russian military personnel in Belarus – border guards
"The situation on the border with Belarus remains fully under control. The creation of a necessary offensive group, which would be ready to invade from the territory of Belarus, is not observed," Andriy Demchenko, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, told a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine–Ukrinform.
According to him, the number of Russian soldiers stationed in the territory of the Russian Federation and involved mainly in the process of training has significantly decreased. "According to our data, their number there now is no more than 1,000, and it is much less than before," he said.
Demchenko noted that the number of Russian troops in Belarus earlier fluctuated at the level of 10,000-11,000 servicemen, later it decreased to 2,500, and now – to 1,000.
He emphasized that the situation is closely monitored by the intelligence units of Ukraine, including the State Border Guard Service, which record everything that happens on the other side of the border.
The future arrival of other Russian units, which will also undergo training at Belarusian training grounds, cannot be ruled out as Belarus continues to support the Russian Federation, Demchenko added.
