It's marathon, not sprint - Reznikov on possible timing of end of war

It is impossible to say how close Ukrainians are to the "finish line," that is, when the war is over, because it is a marathon, not a sprint.

This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"This is not a sprint distance. This is not a 100-meter race, not a 60-meter race, not a 30-meter race. When I realized that this was not a sprint, but a marathon, I said to myself: wait, to run the last 195 meters of the marathon distance, you have to run 42 kilometers before that. This means that you have to accumulate energy and resources for 42 kilometers, keep your pace, spend it wisely, and then, when there are 195 meters left, break through. To be the first to touch the ribbon or at least be among the winners," he said.

According to Reznikov, all Ukrainians are currently "running a marathon," and it is impossible to say how many kilometers away we are from the finish line, because "this is a very conditional comparison. We are running this marathon, and I believe that we are running successfully. And the whole country is. I would like to say that we are so many kilometers closer to the finish line, but I cannot say that."

The minister added that we are "running over rough terrain," so we do not know what is ahead - neither what the terrain will be like, nor the soil, nor the weather.

As reported, Reznikov believes that expectations of a counteroffensive are "somewhat overheated." They are fueled by Ukrainian society, politicians, or the West. At the same time, the minister noted that everyone will understand from the news reports that this is the long-awaited counteroffensive.
