On surprise trip to Bakhmut, Zelensky awards defenders, visits advanced positions

During an unannounced trip to Donetsk region, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the military defending Bakhmut, visited the advanced positions of one of the brigades, heard a report on the operational developments, and presented state awards to soldiers.

This was announced by Zelensky’s Press Secretary Serhiy Nikiforov on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"Volodymyr Zelensky made a working trip to Donetsk region, where he met with Ukrainian military defending the town of Bakhmut," the spokesman said.

According to him, the president visited the advanced positions of one of the mechanized brigades, whose soldiers are repelling the enemy on the approaches to the town, and heard the commander's report on the operational situation, logistical support, and proposals for further action.

Nikiforov said that, while visiting the war zone, Zelensky thanked Ukrainian soldiers for their courage, resilience, and strength, which they demonstrate while repelling enemy attacks.

The president handed state awards to the soldiers of the mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault, tank, artillery, and air assault units.

The head of state and his delegation also observed a moment of silence in memory of the fallen heroes.

President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that he is proud, like the whole of Ukraine, of the defenders of Bakhmut, who prove with their bravery that Ukrainians will persevere and will never give up.

The head of state wrote about this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Bakhmut Fortress. Our people. Defiant against the enemy. With their bravery, they prove that we will stand and not give up what’s ours. Ukraine is proud of you. I am proud! Thank you for the courage, resilience, and strength you demonstrate in repelling enemy attacks," the president emphasized.
