International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has left for Ukraine’s capital city to discuss a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) around Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

The relevant statement was made by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on Twitter, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“On our way to Kyiv for important meetings. The need for a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) around Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is now more urgent than ever,” Grossi wrote.

A reminder that IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stated earlier that Ukraine and Russia had started talks about the safety zone parameters around Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Russian troops seized Zaporizhzhia NPP on March 4, 2022. Since then, they have been deploying ammunition and military equipment within the site of the plant, and shelling the adjacent areas.
