The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced the closure of its offices in Moscow and Minsk due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The EBRD said this in a statement posted on its website, Ukrinform reports.

"The EBRD has strongly condemned the war on Ukraine and the decision to close the offices in Moscow and Minsk is the inevitable outcome of the actions taken by the Russian Federation with the help of Belarus," the statement said.

The EBRD said it continues to offer its unwavering support to Ukraine and has already agreed an initial EUR 2 billion package for Ukraine and other countries which have been affected by the war.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying infrastructure, residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

The EU, U.S. and other countries imposed severe sanctions against the aggressor country.
