Svitolina advances to Australian Open quarterfinals

The first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open, is underway in Melbourne.

Ukraine’s No. 1 player Elina Svitolina (world No. 12) advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating “neutral” Mirra Andreeva (world No. 7) in the fourth round. The match lasted an hour and a half and ended 6–2, 6–4, Ukrinform reports.

In the Australian Open quarterfinals, Svitolina will face American Coco Gauff (world No. 3), who eliminated Czech player Karolína Muchová (world No. 19) in the round of 16 with a 6–1, 3–6, 6–3 victory.

It is worth noting that this is Svitolina’s 13th appearance in Melbourne, where she has reached the quarterfinal stage for the fourth time.

The Australian Open will conclude on February 1.
