Ukraine's Kostyuk wins through to quarterfinals of Australian Open

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in Australia, defeating Russia's Maria Timofeeva 6-2, 6-1.

According to Ukrinform, the match lasted one hour and 15 minutes.

In the next round, Kostyuk will play world No. 4 and reigning champion of the U.S. Open - Cori Gauff from the United States.

Kostyuk reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. She became the second Ukrainian tennis player to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne, after Elina Svitolina (2018, 2019).

The 2024 Australian Open will last until January 27.
