Zelensky aligns sanctions with EU targeting Russian, Iranian, Sudanese citizens and companies
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed two decrees enacting National Security and Defense Council decisions to synchronize sanctions with those of the European Union against a new group of Russian, Iranian and Sudanese citizens, as well as several companies.
That is according to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
According to Decrees No. 447/2026 and No. 448/2026, the synchronization of EU sanctions under the 20th package covers 120 individuals and organizations and introduces economic restrictions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy.
"Some of them are already under Ukrainian sanctions. Today's decision concerns an additional 16 Russian citizens and 31 companies from Russia, Belarus, the UAE, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine," the statement said.
The individuals include heads of Russian strategic enterprises, state institutions, military units, and actors serving Russia in occupied Ukrainian territories.
The list also includes enterprises of Russia's military-industrial complex, manufacturers of electronic warfare systems, software and drone components, as well as companies involved in oil, gas, and gold extraction. Among them are Russian aerospace and drone component producer Atlant Aero LLC and communications and UAV/rocket components manufacturer Irz-Svyaz LLC.
Sanctions were also imposed on companies from the United Arab Emirates supplying machine tools, laboratory equipment, chemical products, and spare parts for commercial aircraft, as well as a Belarusian oil exporter.
Ukraine also introduced restrictions against three Russian individuals: prosecutor Lyudmila Balandina, accused of involvement in systemic repression and human rights violations; judge Dmitry Gordeyev, who issued politically motivated rulings against opposition figures and activists; and Russian editor and propagandist Maria Sittel, who has systematically spread disinformation.
Sanctions were additionally applied to 19 Iranian citizens, seven Sudanese citizens, and 11 Iranian companies involved in Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs.
"We continue to synchronize sanctions regimes with the EU and partners. We expect further pressure on Russia and all those helping it sustain aggression. We are already finalizing joint work on draft future EU sanctions decisions and those of partner countries, including the 21st sanctions package," said Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy.
On May 23, Zelensky signed decrees imposing sanctions on Russians responsible for missile strikes on Ukraine, including the attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv, as well as on Russia's naval logistics sector.
