Zelensky discusses security and support for Ukraine with Italian President
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella to discuss security issues in Europe and the Middle East, and to thank Italy for its support of Ukraine and assistance to its energy sector.
According to Ukrinform, Zelensky shared details of the meeting on Telegram.
The two sides also focused on support needed to ensure Ukraine’s energy resilience, unblocking a €90 billion financial package for Ukraine, the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, and progress in negotiation clusters related to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The Ukrainian President expressed gratitude to Italy for its assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector during the difficult winter period.
“I thank the President for his unwavering, principled position in support of Ukraine and our people,” Zelensky added.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Zelensky noted that Italy supports Ukraine in unblocking €90 billion in EU credit assistance for 2026–2027.
