Useful idiot or FSB agent: Stefanchuk responds to New Year's address by Speaker of Czech Chamber of Deputies

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, responded to the New Year's address by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, Tomio Okamura, and stressed that it is a striking example of ignorance, manipulation, and cynicism.

According to Ukrinform, Stefanchuk wrote about this on Facebook.

“Tomio Okamura's New Year's address is a vivid example of ignorance, manipulation, and cynicism. By once again insulting Ukraine and Ukrainians, he is actually harming and disgracing the Czech Republic and the Czech people, who remain on the side of dignity and justice, on the side of Ukraine,” Stefanchuk said.

He emphasized that Ukraine is deeply grateful to the great Czech people and their worthy representatives for all their help and support in difficult times.

“Therefore, I do not seek to make any assessments of the Czech Speaker's statements, because I know that they are exclusively his personal position, and not the position of the Czech parliament, and even less so of the Czech people,” Stefanchuk stressed.

He believes that the harshest assessment of Okamura's words will come from the Czechs themselves and, “of course, from history, in which his name is unlikely to be preserved.”

“And we will definitely find out whether he was a useful idiot or an FSB agent,” Stefanchuk added.

As reported, on January 1, the Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura, posted a 10-minute New Year's speech on the social network X, in which he opposed providing weapons and financial aid to Ukraine, which, according to him, is “supporting a completely senseless war.” He also complained about the “thieves of Zelensky's gang.”

Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic Vasyl Zvarych responded to Okamura's statement. “We regard Tomio Okamura's offensive and hateful statements about Ukraine and Ukrainians, made today in his New Year's speech, as his personal position, obviously formed under the influence of Russian propaganda,” he wrote.

The diplomat noted that the Speaker's words “are unworthy and completely unacceptable.” “They contradict the principles of a democratic society and the values on which the Czech Republic is based as an integral part of the European community,” Zvarych said, adding that he expects the Czech government and civil society to assess these statements properly.
