Zelensky notes King Charles’s role in encouraging Trump to support Ukraine
King Charles III of the United Kingdom played an important behind-the-scenes role in encouraging U.S. President Donald Trump to support Ukraine more enthusiastically following a tense meeting at the White House in February.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with The Guardian, published on Sunday, Ukrinform reports.
Zelensky recalled that during the U.S. President’s state visit to the United Kingdom in September, Trump had a one-on-one meeting with the King.
“I don’t know all the details but I understand His Majesty sent some important signals to President Trump,” the President said.
He noted that Trump respects the British monarch and considers him a “very important” figure — something Zelensky described as a genuine compliment not extended to very “many people”.
“His Majesty is very sensitive to our people. Maybe sensitive is not the right word. He’s very supportive,” the Ukrainian President added.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizes that Ukraine and the United States share deep common values, unlike imperialist and revisionist Russia.
