Zelensky responds to UN Security Council's reinstated sanctions against Iran

Strict sanctions must be imposed immediately whenever someone undermines or threatens international peace and security.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

He welcomed the UN Security Council's firm decision to snapback sanctions against Iran.

Zelensky stressed that Tehran has long ignored calls from the IAEA and the international community, undermining the nuclear order.

"This must be a global rule to follow: whenever anyone undermines or threatens international peace and security, harsh sanctions must be imposed without delay," Zelensky said.

He also added that "Russia is on the same page as Iran, seizing a Ukrainian nuclear plant with its nuclear materials, and transforming the Zaporizhzhia NPP into a global nuclear threat."

"Reckless regimes that ignore basic international law norms and pursue ambitions that endanger nuclear security must face a united and strong international response," Zelensky said.

"Severe national and collective pressure on Russia, as well as sanctions against its nuclear sector, are required to strengthen the international nuclear order," Zelensky added.

On September 27, the UN reinstated the arms embargo and other sanctions against Iran.
