Media spotlight on Russian proxies undermines efforts to hold Russia accountable – MFA Ukraine

Media attention to Russian proxy forces in eastern Ukraine creates a false reality and undermines efforts to bring Russia to responsibility for its crimes.

This was stated by Oleh Nikolenko, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"Reuters, in Donbass not separatists, but the Russian occupation administration. Attention to Russian proxies creates a false reality, undermines efforts to bring Russia to justice for its crimes. When it comes to European security, responsible journalism plays a crucial role," Nikolenko wrote on Twitter.

The tweet came in response to a publication by Reuters of a statement by the self-styled leader of the so-called "DPR," Denis Pushilin, who said a full-scale war in eastern Ukraine could break out at any moment.

As reported earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on January 3 that Russia was increasing the intensity of disinformation efforts, accusing Ukraine of plotting an attack on the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
