Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia: ECHR schedules hearing for November 24

An oral hearing in Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia case will take place at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on November 24, 2021.

“Oral hearings will be held! A hearing in Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia case will take place on November 24, 2021,” Ministry of Justice of Ukraine posted on Facebook, referring to the calendar of hearings at ECHR, Ukrinform reports.

According to Deputy Minister of Justice Valeria Kolomiets, it is proved within the case that the Russian Federation exercises effective control over the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and that the aggressor is accountable for human rights violations.

In November 2020, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine informed that the Grand Chamber of the ECHR attached Ukraine v. Russia case No. 43800/14 (regarding children from state institutions who were illegally taken to Russia at the beginning of the war) and the Netherlands v. Russia case No. 28525/20 (the Dutch interstate legal action regarding MH17) to the interstate case Ukraine v. Russia (re Eastern Ukraine) No. 8019/16.

The new title of the case is Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russian Federation nos. 8019/16, 43800/14, and 28525/20.
