Venediktova meets with head of EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova has met with Antti Juhani Hartikainen, Head of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office has reported.

According to the report, both parties discussed further cooperation in the context of internal transformations of the prosecutor's office after the end of the transition period of the reform.

Venediktova said the development of digitalization of the prosecutor's office was relevant now. A single platform is being developed to bring together all the electronic systems used by prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, she said.

"Creating such a platform is our priority project. The search for the optimal solution is currently underway. This would help get rid of bureaucracy, speed up processes and make the system transparent. It is also an additional tool for preventing corruption in law enforcement agencies," Venediktova said.

Hartikainen supported the idea of creating such a platform and noted that EUAM Ukraine was ready to provide expert support for development projects. He also added that he considers the first stage of the prosecutor's office reform to be a key success among other reforms in Ukraine.

During the meeting, both parties talked about the work of the newly created bodies of prosecutorial self-government - the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine and the body exercising disciplinary action.

"In a short time, we managed to create two bodies at once, which will regulate prosecutorial activity within the prosecutor's office. I hope they will become the voice of prosecutors, which will represent and protect their interests, social guarantees, and, most importantly, their independence," Venediktova said.

Both parties agreed to continue further close cooperation for the progress of law enforcement in Ukraine and to build an effective prosecutor's office that protects the interests of citizens.
