UIA plane crash: Five foreign ministers hold joint phone conversation

Foreign ministers of the five countries which citizens died in the downing of a Ukraine International Airlines plane in Iran on January 8 held a conference call.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said this during a joint press conference with Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne in Kyiv on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Along with Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne, we held a conference call with our colleagues from UK, Sweden, and Afghanistan regarding the process of investigation for PS752. Our priorities remain the same: investigation, bringing those responsible to justice and fair compensation for families," Prystaiko wrote on his Twitter account.

In turn, the Canadian foreign minister recalled that the International Coordination and Response Group on the plane crash near Tehran is in the process of discussing compensation.

In addition, he said that another goal of the Group’s activities is to investigate the tragedy transparently, including to decode the aircraft’s flight recorders.

A Ukraine International Airlines plane (Flight PS752) heading from Tehran to Kyiv crashed shortly after taking off from the Imam Khomeini International Airport at about 06:00 Tehran time (04:30 Kyiv time) on Wednesday, January 8. There were 176 people on board – nine crew members (all Ukrainians) and 167 passengers (citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada, Sweden, Afghanistan, Germany, and the UK).

On January 11, Iran admitted that its military had accidentally shot down the Ukrainian passenger jet. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accepted full responsibility for the downing of the Ukrainian airliner.
