Ukraine to apply for EU membership in 2024

In 2024, Ukraine will apply for membership in the European Union.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced this during his speech at the forum entitled "From Kruty to Brussels. We are going our way" in Kyiv on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"In 2024, we will apply for membership in the European Union. And I have no doubt that we will receive and start implementing the NATO Membership Action Plan," Poroshenko said.

According to the president, many did not believe that the Association Agreement would be signed and ratified, that we would win a diplomatic battle with Russia for its ratification. He recalled Russia's steps to counteract the ratification of this document, from the referendum in the Netherlands to the attempts to block it in the European Parliament. "The agreement is in force and the EU share in our exports has exceeded 42%. But this is a reliable 42%. In 2024, we will apply for membership in the European Union," Poroshenko said.
