Injury toll from explosions near Zhytomyr rises to 82
The number of people injured in explosions near the village of Berezyna, Zhytomyr region, has risen to 82, with 38 currently hospitalized, including a citizen of Japan.
Vitalii Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, announced this on television, according to Ukrinform.
"At the moment, we are talking about 82 injured, with 38 people, including four children, hospitalized. All are in moderate condition," he said.
According to Bunechko, among those injured is a Japanese citizen who has been provided with shelter and is currently receiving medical care in a hospital.
He also stressed that around 100 households were affected, with a quarter of them completely destroyed.
"The state, together with regional and local authorities, will fully compensate for the cost of the lost housing. Commissions are working to determine the exact value of the destroyed properties. The consequences of the two explosions near the village of Berezyna could have been much worse," the official said.
Earlier, Bunechko stated that the explosions occurred at industrial facilities.
Earlier reports said that two people were killed and 24 injured in the explosions near Berezyna, close to Zhytomyr.
