PM Shmyhal calls on IMF to launch mission in Ukraine online

On September 21, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with Director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Alfred Kammer, during which they discussed issues of bilateral cooperation.

According to the Government portal, Shmyhal congratulated Kammer on his recent appointment and assured that further cooperation with the IMF is one of the priorities of both the President and the Government of Ukraine.

"Ukraine highly appreciates the comprehensive support provided by the IMF in difficult times for the whole world," the PM said.

Shmyhal said that a letter had been sent to Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, with a request to launch the mission in Ukraine in online mode.

The Prime Minister also invited Alfred Kammer to visit Ukraine after the removal of restrictive measures introduced due to the spread of COVID-19.

The conversation was also attended by Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko and Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Kyrylo Shevchenko.

As reported, Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said that the Finance Ministry expects to receive two tranches from the International Monetary Fund worth $700 million each by the end of the year.

In June 2020, Ukraine received a loan from the IMF in the amount of $2.1 billion.
