Head of Patrol Police Zhukov resigns after terrorist attack in Kyiv
The head of the Patrol Police Department, Yevhenii Zhukov, has submitted his resignation following the terrorist attack in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district that occurred on Saturday.
He announced this during a briefing, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"In this case, as an officer, I made the decision to submit my resignation from the position of Head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine. I believe this is the right thing to do," he said.
As reported, on April 18 an unidentified individual opened fire on people in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district.
He then took hostages in a store and fired at police during the arrest attempt. Negotiators tried to establish contact with him. Eventually, he was neutralized.
As a result of the shooting, six people were killed and 14 others were injured.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko instructed the Head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, to conduct an internal investigation into the actions of police officers during the terrorist attack in Kyiv and to provide all information to the State Bureau of Investigation.
Earlier, a video appeared on social media allegedly showing police officers fleeing the scene during the shooting.
