Ukrainian teen sentenced in Germany for killing Ukrainian woman and her child

A court in Germany has convicted a 16-year-old Ukrainian citizen of murdering a 32-year-old Ukrainian woman and her infant daughter, sentencing him to ten years in a juvenile detention facility.

That is according to Der Spiegel, Ukrinform reports.

"The Essen Regional Court has sentenced a 16-year-old to ten years in juvenile detention. The teenager from Dorsten in North Rhine-Westphalia was found guilty of the deaths of a mother and her infant daughter," the report said.

Due to the defendant's young age, the trial was held entirely behind closed doors. A court spokeswoman stated that the teenager confessed to killing a neighbor and her one-year-and-seven-month-old daughter by kicking and punching them in June of last year.

The day after the crime, the 16-year-old returned to the scene and surrendered to police officers who were still working there.

The circumstances of the case remain unclear. The teenager was convicted of double murder.
