SBU detains Russian agent in Mykolaiv region who spied on Defence Forces movement
The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a Russian informant in the Mykolaiv region, who was spying on the movement of armored vehicles of the Defense Forces near the front line in the south.
According to Ukrinform, SBU reported this on its website.
The suspect set up concealed smartphones with additional power sources and online access near highways for Russian intelligence officers.
In this way, the enemy hoped to track in real time the directions of movement, types of equipment, weapons, and the approximate number of Ukrainian troops.
The perpetrator also periodically drove around Mykolaiv and its outskirts by taxi to monitor the locations of Defense Forces units.
Additionally, she gained the trust of Ukrainian defenders and covertly extracted information about the locations of their units.
Using the coordinates provided by the informant, the Russians planned to carry out combined airstrikes using drones, guided aerial bombs, and missiles.
According to the investigation, the enemy's tasks were carried out by a 26-year-old unemployed woman from Mykolaiv who had come to the attention of Russian intelligence officers in Telegram channels offering easy money.
SBU military counterintelligence uncovered the informant, documented her crimes, and detained her. Before this, the spy equipment was dismantled and measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defense Forces.
Two tablets and four smartphones, which she used to coordinate reconnaissance activities with the Russians, were seized from the detainee. SBU investigators notified her of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established in accordance with Ukrainian law, committed under martial law).
As Ukrinform reported, the SBU earlier detained a man in Mykolaiv who, on orders from Russia, was supposed to plant an improvised explosive device on a service vehicle used by Ukrainian defenders.
