Russia's plan in Kupiansk fails, but fighting on left bank of Oskil River continues – Trehubov
In Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, Russian troops failed to achieve their goal of large-scale infiltration, although they maintain a limited presence in the city and continue active attacks on the bridgehead east of the Oskil River.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Grouping, stated this during a television broadcast.
"In Kupiansk itself, the situation is relatively normal. The Russians were unable to carry out their plan to infiltrate a significant number of troops through Holubivka. They maintain a presence in Holubivka itself, and a few dozen personnel remain inside Kupiansk," Trehubov said.
According to him, Russian attempts to expand control in the city have failed, which makes it impossible to describe their spring offensive in this direction as successful. At the same time, the situation remains difficult on the left-bank bridgehead of the Oskil River, where fighting continues to be intense because of favorable firing conditions for the enemy.
"This does not allow anyone to say that the spring offensive achieved any success. This is clearly not what they were aiming for and not something that gives them any substantial hope of controlling the city as a whole," the spokesperson emphasized.
He added that east of the Oskil River, Russian forces continue active attacks while taking advantage of the so-called gray zone, but Ukrainian units are striking their positions, allowing Ukraine to hold the bridgehead despite the difficult operational situation.
As Ukrinform reported, since the beginning of the day the Russian army has attacked Ukrainian defensive positions 57 times, with the heaviest pressure on the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk sectors.
