War update: 56 clashes on front lines since midnight, three axes hottest
Since the beginning of the day, 56 combat clashes have taken place between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops, with the highest number of attacks recorded on the Huliaipole, Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka axes.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said this in an update as of 16:00 on Thursday, March 5, Ukrinform reports.
According to the military, Russian forces shelled the border settlements of Bachivsk, Bezsalivka, Rohizne, Ryzhivka, Kysla Dubyna, Budky, Khodyne, Kharkivka, Korenok, Esman, Novovasylivka, Yastrubshchyna, Volfyne and Neskuchne in the Sumy region, as well as Kostobobriv in the Chernihiv region.
On the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk axes, Russian forces carried out one airstrike, dropping three guided bombs. They also conducted 76 shelling attacks on populated areas and Ukrainian positions, including five using multiple launch rocket systems.
No offensive actions by the enemy have been recorded so far on the Southern Slobozhanshchyna and Kupiansk axes.
On the Lyman axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attempts by Russian forces to advance toward the settlements of Cherneshchyna, Drobysheve and Lyman.
On the Sloviansk axis, Russian troops attacked twice in the areas of Yampil and Platonivka.
On the Kramatorsk axis, the enemy carried out no offensive actions.
On the Kostiantynivka axis, Russian forces launched 14 offensive actions near the settlements of Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar and Sofiivka, as well as toward Illinivka and Stepanivka.
On the Pokrovsk axis, Russian forces made 14 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions near Rodynske, Kotlyne and Novomykolaivka, as well as toward Bilytske, Novooleksandrivka and Novopavlivka. Two attacks are still ongoing.
On the Oleksandrivka axis, the enemy launched three assaults near Novohryhorivka and Krasnohirske.
The most intense fighting is taking place on the Huliaipole axis, where 16 attacks were recorded near Huliaipole and Zelene, as well as toward Zaliznychne, Varvarivka and Staroukrainka. The Ukrainian Defense Forces have already repelled 14 of them.
Russian forces also carried out airstrikes on the areas of Vozdvyzhivka, Kopani, Barvinivka, Verkhnia Tersa, and Varvarivka.
On the Orikhiv axis, one clash occurred near Stepnohirsk.
On the Dnipro River axis, Ukrainian units repelled one enemy attack toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In other areas of the frontline, the situation has not changed significantly.
