Ukrainian boxing champion killed in action near Bakhmut

Oleksandr Onishchenko, Ukraine’s junior boxing champion, was killed in the battles for the town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.

This was reported by the Boxing Federation of Ukraine on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

Oleksandr Onyshchenko was a Master of Sports of Ukraine in boxing, champion of Ukraine among young men and juniors, and member of Ukraine’s national boxing team.

He represented the Boxing Federation of Sumy region, trained by coach Dmytro Dubrov.

Alexander was killed on May 15, holding back the Russian advance near Bakhmut.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Gutzait, 293 athletes, coaches, and physical education specialists have been killed in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
