White House announces additional security assistance for Ukraine

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced another package of security assistance for Ukraine which will include new air defense systems and surface-to-air missiles.

"Today, the United States will be announcing another package of security assistance for Ukraine, including important air defense contributions, like missiles for Hawk air defense systems, as well as four U.S. Avenger air defense systems equipped with Stinger missiles," Sullivan said during a briefing at the White House on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, this equipment will complement other air defense contributions to Ukraine announced by the USA, allies and partners within the Ramstein format.

Sullivan also noted that during his visit to Kyiv last week, he had a chance to consult with President Zelensky about what Ukraine exactly needed to be in the strongest positions possible on the battlefield. He emphasized that the current aid package would be "critical" for Ukraine as Russia continued to use cruise missiles and Iranian-made drones to attack civilian infrastructure.

As reported, the Government of Spain announced on Thursday that it planned to deliver two additional Hawk air defense systems to Ukraine in addition to the four sent earlier. In addition, Spain's Ministry of Defense said it would provide Ukraine with a battery of 105mm howitzers and additional generators to remedy the country's electricity shortage.
