More than 2.8M Ukrainians left for Poland since war began

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, more than 2.8 million Ukrainians have left for Poland. In particular, more than 300,000 people currently live in Krakow alone.

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova said this following a monitoring visit to Poland, where she attended the Center for Assistance to Ukrainians in the Galeria Krakowska Center together with Consul General of Ukraine in Krakow Viacheslav Voynarovsky, Ukrinform reports.

"Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression, more than 2.8 million Ukrainians have left for Poland and found temporary shelter there. In particular, more than 300,000 Ukrainian citizens, who left the country due to the war, temporarily live in Krakow,” Denisova said.

According to her, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Galeria Krakowska Center provided support to 40,000 Ukrainian citizens every day, and more than 500 volunteers in Krakow continue to provide daily assistance to Ukrainians.

"I am grateful to the government of the Republic of Poland, the citizens of Poland and the volunteers for their help to our citizens during their stay in Poland. I would like to express special gratitude to the Consul General of Ukraine in Krakow and the staff of the Consulate General, who provide a full range of consular services on a daily basis, necessary for our citizens who left the country because of the war. Glory to Ukraine!” The ombudsman wrote.

On February 24, Russia launched a new phase of its eight-year war against Ukraine – a full-scale invasion. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
