Kyiv has installed nearly 16 MW of planned 40 MW in backup power capacity
In Kyiv, as part of the implementation of the Comprehensive Energy Resilience Plan, backup power systems with a capacity of about 16 MW have already been built out of the planned nearly 40 MW.
According to Ukrinform, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Telegram.
The capital continues to prepare for the new heating season and implement projects under the city’s Comprehensive Energy Resilience Plan, Klitschko noted.
According to him, “in particular, backup power systems with a capacity of nearly 16 MW have already been built, which will serve the needs of the capital’s water supply system.”
Klitschko inspected these three diesel power plants, each with a capacity of 5.2 MW. He noted that the diesel generator sets are immediately equipped with frequency converters to ensure a higher level of reliability and trouble-free operation.
Overall, the mayor reported, there are plans to build diesel power plants with a total capacity of about 40 MW.
He recalled that in June he had inspected one of the heat-generation facilities where new cogeneration systems had been built. According to Klitschko, equipment with a capacity of over 18 MW is already operating there, supplying electricity to the country’s national grid.
Klitschko emphasized that “Kyiv is implementing its resilience plan, unfortunately, on its own. This is despite the fact that the capital’s plan consists primarily of nationwide strategic projects: engineering and technical protection, cogeneration, backup power for water supply and wastewater systems, as well as the development of distributed heat generation.”
The total cost of the projects being implemented by the city is nearly UAH 23 billion.
As Klitschko noted, the capital is taking a comprehensive approach to implementing the plan: it is adopting all possible effective and technically proven solutions and models. It is taking all possible measures to properly prepare for the new heating season.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Kyiv City State Administration has submitted proposals to the government, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and the Office of the President that are necessary for the timely implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Resilience of the Capital’s Territorial Community and preparations for the heating season.
