De Zerbi soon to take charge at Shakhtar Donetsk

The head coach of Serie A club Sassuolo, Roberto De Zerbi, is close to signing a two-year contract with Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, Romano announced this on his Twitter account.

The Italian football manager, 41, was offered to sign the contract until 2023, and the document will be signed during the upcoming talks. De Zerbi will replace Luis Castro, who worked for the Ukrainian club for two seasons, replacing Paulo Fonseca in 2019.

De Zerbi had invitations from France's Lyon and Italy's Fiorentina, but Shakhtar offered the Italian coach a high salary - about three million euros per season.

De Zerbi has worked with Sassuolo since 2018. Before that, he headed Foggia, Palermo and Benevento. Shakhtar may become the first foreign club in the Italian's coaching career.

The Ukrainian club took second place in the Ukrainian Premier League this season. Sassuolo is eighth in Serie A.
