Government instructs ministries, local authorities to prepare for spring floods – Svyrydenko

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced that the government has instructed relevant authorities, together with regional military administrations, to prepare all necessary resources to manage and mitigate the consequences of expected spring floods and high water.

She announced this on Telegram following today's government meeting, Ukrinform reports.

She said that the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, jointly with the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, are to submit proposals on support for people and businesses that may be affected by flooding this spring.

Recently, meltwater flooded more than a hundred households in the Kirovohrad region.

In the Kharkiv region, flooding has been recorded in five districts, with the most severe situation in the Izium district.

Private households were also flooded in the Poltava region. Due to heavy precipitation and strong winds, 69 settlements in the region were left without electricity.

In the Sumy region, private homes were flooded in five cities and several towns. In the Sumy community, the situation caused by snowmelt and precipitation has been declared an emergency.
