More than 130 Ukrainian service members are currently in the Netherlands, where they have been sent for rehabilitation or treatment in coordination with Ukraine's Ministry of Health.

Ukraine's Ambassador to the Netherlands Andriy Kostin stated in an exclusive interview with Ukrinform.

"At present, more than 130 Ukrainian service members are in the Netherlands, having been sent for rehabilitation or treatment in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Ukrainian defenders are being treated at the country's leading medical facilities – university medical centers in Rotterdam, Maastricht, Leiden, Groningen, and Utrecht; the military rehabilitation center in Doorn; as well as clinics and rehabilitation facilities in Zwolle, Amsterdam, and The Hague. As you can imagine, those sent abroad for treatment are truly severe cases – those whom, for objective reasons, it is extremely difficult to help in Ukraine. In each case, a comprehensive, individualized treatment and rehabilitation program is developed. Many of our soldiers undergo unique surgeries in which Dutch doctors, using the latest technologies, literally reconstruct damaged parts of the body and give the wounded a chance to return to a full, active life. Prosthetics and the corresponding rehabilitation aimed at restoring everyday functionality are also provided at a high level," Kostin said.

He also stressed that special attention is paid not only to physical but also to psychological recovery.

"Ukrainian service members have the opportunity to work with psychologists. Those recovering from surgeries are regularly invited to public events hosted by the Embassy, charity concerts, exhibitions by Ukrainian artists, and competitions involving Ukrainian athletes. In this regard, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to volunteer organizations, in particular the NL4UA Foundation, as well as to all initiatives and volunteers who take care of our defenders in the Netherlands, provide transportation, organize cultural activities, and assist with day-to-day organizational matters related to arrival and adaptation to the new environment," the ambassador said.

Kostin also expressed special thanks to Dutch municipalities that provide Ukrainian service members and their accompanying persons with free accommodation and financial assistance for the duration of treatment.

As Ukrinform reported, during a visit to the Netherlands on December 15, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Ukrainian service members undergoing rehabilitation at the Aardenburg Military Rehabilitation Center and presented them with state awards.
