Zelenska visits Memorial to victims of Russian shelling in Vinnytsia

First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the Memorial to the victims of the Russian shelling that took place on July 14, 2022, in Vinnytsia.

Olena Zelenska wrote this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"The memorial to the victims of the Russian shelling of Vinnytsia on July 14, 2022, was developed by the city council at the initiative of the families of 29 victims," Zelenska said.

She recalled that "on that terrible day, Russian war criminals hit the very center of the city with Kalibr missiles, killing passersby and burning down a medical center with doctors and patients."

"Now their memory is embodied in doves and 29 sakura trees planted around the monument. Doves that soar into the sky. Each figure has a photo and a story about a person who will never walk these streets again. There is also a bird and a tree for 4-year-old Liza, who was one of the victims of this tragedy," Zelenska added.

According to her, "a visit to Vinnytsia [she] began with attending this place."

"Now the area where everything happened has been partially restored. The only thing that the city does not plan to restore is the airplane in the center of the square, which is cut up in pieces. Let it remain as it is - as a reminder of the inhuman, barbaric evil that Ukraine is resisting and that Ukrainians will eventually defeat it," Zelenska emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 14, 2022, Russians fired two Kalibr missiles at Vinnytsia. The missiles hit the Officers' House, located on Victory Square. The enemy shelling destroyed the premises of the Officers' House, burnt down the medical center located in the Yuvileinyi House of Residence, and destroyed and damaged about fifty cars. The enemy missiles killed 29 people, including children. More than 200 people were injured.
