Explosion in Kyiv court: Offender died on the spot

The offender, who blow up an explosive device in the Shevchenkivskyi district court of Kyiv, died on the spot.

According to Ukrinform, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported this on Telegram.

"The offender died at the scene. According to preliminary information, he blew himself up," the report says.

According to Klymenko, two members of the Rapid Operational Response Unit (KORD) were injured during the storming of the premises.

"Their lives were saved by the shields the operational units were carrying," the minister wrote.

As reported by Ukrinform, an explosion rang out in the premises of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv at 17:20. Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko said that according to preliminary data, an unidentified device was blown up by a man who was taken to a court hearing.

According to Suspilne, the explosions occurred during the escort from the courtroom of Ihor Humeniuk, who is accused of committing a terrorist attack near the Verkhovna Rada on August 31, 2015. According to the investigation, at that time, Humeniuk threw a grenade at law enforcers during the protest, killing four National Guard members and injuring more than 140 people.

At today's meeting, Humeniuk's preventive measure was extended in the form of detention.

All emergency services are working at the scene.
