Ukraine’s military intel releases two women, six children from Syria captivity

Operatives with the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry (GUR) have successfully completed a secret operation to liberate and extract from Syria Ukrainian citizens who had been held in captivity.

That’s according to a statement by the agency’s press service, seen by Ukrinform.

"GUR operatives conducted an operation to liberate and evacuate citizens of Ukraine who had been held in terrible conditions on the territory of Syria," the statement reads.

It is noted that scouts brought home two Ukrainian women and six children. The report on the completed operation was released as soon as all liberated citizens safely crossed into Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, since May 2022, the GUR has been authorized to supervise the issue of POW exchange amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The POW swap coordination Headquarters is headed by GUR chief Kyrylo Budanov.
