NSDC Secretary: Sanctions introduced not against church but certain individuals

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) is introducing sanctions not against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church but against certain individuals collaborating with the aggressor state.

The relevant statement was made by NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“I do not think we are fighting against church. There are certain individuals, whom the Security Service of Ukraine has certain claims against, and sanctions are being imposed on such individuals. The fact that they have some rank or are working somewhere is irrelevant to us, when we are talking about national security. We do not care whether it is a person wearing a cassock, Brioni suit or something else. We do not pay attention to this, when it is a matter of national security. Everyone who collaborates with the occupier and has relation to Russia must be held accountable in accordance with the laws of our country,” Danilov explained.

In his words, sanctions are imposed not on institutions but certain individuals having direct contacts with Russia.

A reminder that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) on sanctions against seven representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
