Cabinet has several scripts drafted for heating season - PM

Given the ongoing energy crisis, the Cabinet of Ministers has prepared several scenarios that will ensure a stable heating season.

That’s according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal who addressed a government meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Gas prices in Europe have reached an all-time high, while coal prices are triple those seen last year. So let's be honest, we’re facing a difficult autumn-winter period, but the government has prepared several scenarios for us to get through it smoothly," the head of government said.

According to Shmyhal, nuclear generation will guarantee uninterrupted central heating supplies. At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers coordinates the process of boosting coal purchases, while the Ministry of Energy coordinates the increase of own extraction.

Shmyhal stressed the government’s task to provide sufficient volumes of energy resources to ensure stable heating across the country. He also noted that central heating tariffs for households would remain unchanged throughout the season.

As of November 3, some 18.1 billion cubic meters of gas had been accumulated in Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities, while nearly 800 million cubic meters had been pumped out since early October.
