Ambassador: Ukrainian cultural center should be created in Italy

A Ukrainian cultural center or a branch of the Ukrainian Institute should be established in Italy in order to promote Ukraine and demonstrate its potential.

"One of the important tools for popularizing Ukraine, improving and conveying the image of Ukraine, demonstrating our potential – cultural, spiritual and historical – would be the creation of a cultural center or a branch of the Ukrainian Institute," Ambassador of Ukraine to Italy Yaroslav Melnyk said at the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. International Relations” on July 6, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, this has been discussed for many years, but nothing has been implemented so far.

The Ambassador said that more than 100 Ukrainian NGOs were registered in Italy. However, a significant part of them are not active, including due to objective reasons such as lack of funding.

In total, according to official data, about 250,000 Ukrainians live in Italy. "The Ukrainian community in Italy is one of the largest. According to official data, about 250,000 Ukrainians are registered in Italy. Unofficial data show that this figure is many times bigger," Melnyk added.
