Poland may resume flights to Ukraine in early July

Poland’s Ambassador to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki has expressed hope that flights between Poland and Ukraine may be resumed in early July.

"The issue of railway link was raised, but safety is the priority. And now, unfortunately, the situation with COVID-19 in the border regions of Ukraine makes it difficult for me to imagine that the railway link will work. We hope to resume flights from the beginning of July. This can alleviate the situation on the border," the Ambassador said at a briefing upon the Parliamentary Assembly video conference meeting on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

There are problems at the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing point that need coordinated actions of Polish and Ukrainian border guards, he added.

“Along with communication and dialogue between parliamentarians, there is an intensive dialogue between the governments on various aspects. We hope for [holding talks on] education next week. There is a dialogue between the interior ministries,” Cichocki added.

Poland extended a ban on international passenger flights until June 16.

A meeting of the Ukraine-Poland Parliamentary Assembly was held via video conference on Tuesday, June 23. The event was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk and Deputy Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terlecki.
