Private company wants to build spaceport in Ukraine

The Space Logistics Ukraine company intends to build a spaceport on the territory of Ukraine and is ready to invest in research and development in this area. The negotiations with experts are underway.

Founder of Space Logistics Ukraine, Dmytro Leheza said at the Sergey Korolev Space Museum in Zhytomyr within the framework of the all-Ukrainian space tour, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The Space Logistics Ukraine company, which began operating last year, aims to amend the Ukrainian legislation so that the private companies could work in the domestic space industry.

In particular, the Space Logistics Ukraine became the organizer of the tour “Space Ukraine. What WE do! ”

“The main objective of our tour is to popularize the topic of space. We see the active development of the space industry in the USA, China, and India. Ukraine declares itself to be a space state, but we have no satellites orbiting the Earth. If the state does not make any breakthrough in this direction in the next two or three years, we will drop behind, and it will be difficult to catch up. It is important for us to give lectures in different cities of Ukraine, to meet and communicate with people, so that they start to think and believe that developing our space industry is quite real,” Dmytro Leheza said.

Leheza is called Ukrainian Elon Musk. He confirmed that he indeed held talks with a native of Zhytomyr, Oleksiy Pakhunov, who now works for SpaceX.

“Oleksiy is ready to help. It is important that experts, who have achieved success abroad, help Ukraine to develop the core industries,” Leheza added.
