Ukraine to join development of cultural routes in Europe

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft law of Ukraine "On Ukraine's Accession to the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes".

"On September 5, the Government approved the draft law of Ukraine ‘On Ukraine's Accession to the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes.’ The draft law was developed by the Ministry of Culture for Ukraine to join the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes, which aims to form a common cultural space through the development of cultural routes which, in turn, will promote the popularization of the national cultural heritage in Ukraine and Europe as an integral part of the common European history, tourist and economic development of the country by joining the already existing and initiating new cultural routes," the Governmental portal reports.

The Cultural Routes programme was launched by the Council of Europe in 1987. Its objective was to demonstrate, by means of a journey through space and time, how the heritage of the different countries and cultures of Europe contributes to a shared cultural heritage.

In December 2010, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted Resolution CM/Res(2010)53 establishing an Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) to enable closer co-operation between states particularly interested in the development of Cultural Routes.
