Zelensky and First Lady arrive in Romania
President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife have arrived in Romania for a visit, during which he will take part in the Bucharest Nine Summit.
According to Ukrinform, the president announced this on Telegram.
“Arrived in Romania together with the First Lady. The Bucharest Nine Summit is taking place here today, with the participation of Northern European countries. Important meetings are planned on the sidelines of the summit. All of us in the world need joint decisions and joint work so that there is more security for everyone. We will be shoring up additional resources for our defense and expanding the Drone Deals format,” Zelensky stated.
He also noted that First Lady Olena Zelenska will meet with Romania’s First Lady and participate in the signing of memorandums on the accession of Romanian universities to the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies.
As reported, last year, on June 2, President Zelensky also participated in the Bucharest Nine Summit, which took place in Vilnius. At that time, a decision was made to allocate additional aid packages to Ukraine.
The B9 format, or Bucharest Nine, which was established at the initiative of the presidents of Romania and Poland in November 2015, encompasses the countries on NATO’s eastern flank. In addition to these two countries, the B9 includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
In addition to the leaders of the B9 countries, the current summit in Bucharest is attended by the NATO Secretary General and the leaders of the Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
