Ukraine ready to reciprocate with ceasefire: Zelensky addresses Russia following truce between U.S. and Iran
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian party is ready to reciprocate if the Russians cease their attacks. He also called the ceasefire in the Middle East the right decision.
According to Ukrinform, the president wrote about this on Telegram.
"A ceasefire is the right decision, leading to the end of the war. It saves lives, prevents the destruction of cities and villages, and allows power plants and other infrastructure to function normally; thus, it provides the time and necessary conditions for diplomacy to yield results. Ukraine has always called for a ceasefire in the war being waged by Russia here in Europe against our state and people, and we support the calm in the Middle East and the Gulf, which paves the way for diplomatic efforts. Ukraine reiterates to Russia: We are ready to respond in kind if Russia ceases its attacks. It is obvious to everyone that a ceasefire can create the right conditions for agreements," he noted.
Zelensky recalled that various countries were involved in the negotiation process, and, in his words, it is important that the United States take this diplomatic step.
"Over the past few weeks, Ukraine has been helping to protect lives in the Middle East and the Gulf. Ukrainian military expert teams will continue to work in the region to further develop security capabilities. The situation in this region has global implications: Any threats to security and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf amplify economic challenges and raise the cost of living worldwide. That is precisely why security must be guaranteed, and the interests of every nation must be taken into account when determining post-war conditions. It is equally crucial to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Decisiveness on this issue also has global significance," he emphasized.
The president added that active and coordinated action by the international community is needed to achieve results. Security after the war must increase, not decrease. According to him, Ukraine will continue to work constructively with all partners.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address on April 7 that the Ukrainian military experts are participating in consultations regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
