Russia positions itself as 'major space power' in countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America – CCD
Through the network of "Rossotrudnichestvo" and so-called "Russian Houses," the Kremlin is attempting to "sell" the myth of Russia as a "great space power" in dozens of countries across these regions.
According to Ukrinform, the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council reported this on Telegram.
"Through the network of 'Rossotrudnichestvo' and the so-called 'Russian Houses,' festivals, lectures, exhibitions, and educational events dedicated to space and Yuri Gagarin's flight are being held in dozens of countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Despite being presented in a 'scientific and educational' format, these events are in fact a classic instrument of 'soft power.' In this way, Russia seeks to shape a positive image of itself. Through propaganda of 'technological greatness,' the Kremlin is trying to sell the world the myth of Russia as a 'major space power,'" the statement said.
It is noted that the real state of Russia's space industry is far from this propagandistic image. Under sanctions and the enormous costs of the war, it is rapidly losing positions, technology, and personnel, while the sector's productivity has effectively rolled back to levels seen in the 1960s.
As Ukrinform previously reported, a sharp decline in the number of space launches has been recorded in Russia. In particular, in 2025, Roscosmos carried out only 17 carrier rocket launches.
